The Galilean Service is one of the most cherished traditions of Eaton Rapids Campmeeting. On Thursday evening, immediately following the Evening Service, the camp and community members alike gather at the Cross, located across from Grace Hotel, for the beautiful and moving service. The service will be held by the Youth, designed in a reflective manner balancing songs, Scripture reading & prayer, allowing participants to concentrate on the meaning of the service and their experience at ERC, and how they want to take that into their own communities outside of camp. Hand-held candles will be lit, and participants will be intentionally sent from the Cross and asked not to extinguish their light until they reach their place of residence, thus signifying the going out of the light, representing a people who are sent.
All are welcome to attend this poignant service of beauty and reflection. Each individual is encouraged to be in communion with God, the natural surroundings, and those around them, remembering that-
God so Loved the World, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3: 16-17
Eaton Rapids Campmeeting Association has dedicated the ERC grounds to the Glory of God, and therefore, is implementing new eco-friendly ways of preserving this beautiful custom, while honoring God’s creation.
